Art in the city and the discourse of resistance
Due to its geopolitical position in the region, Iran has always been attacked by different ethnic groups and countries in every period of its several thousand years of history. One of the ideological discourses created in the face of this current is the discourse of resistance. This discourse is not merely governmental and its thought has a long history in Iranian folk tales and literature.
In contemporary Iran, artists have sometimes created works of art along with this discourse and sometimes in its critique. But my approach to this patriarchal discourse on the issue of resistance is a feminine one; Because in this discourse, and especially in the art of public space in the city, women have no space to be present. Instead of pointing directly at women, my visual elements focus on feminine colors and contrast them with the masculine face of the city. The visual elements of my murals harmonize with the architecture, but the colors retain their feminine effect in contrast to the architecture; Because in my opinion, resistance is a feminine thing and should be present in public.
