Investigating the place of color in urban space

Abstract

Among the visual elements, color has a special place in contemporary urban life. However, its interactive capabilities have not been taken into account as they should have been. The effective components in the appearance of the city, including the facade, green space, showcases, paintings, furniture, murals and similar elements, are always represented by a coating of paint. Today, with the growth of technology and variety of materials, the need for appropriate use of color according to the cultural identity of cities is felt more than ever.

In addition, examining the visual effects of color and its proper use in the urban landscape, can prevent visual disturbances in cities. The effect of color on the quality of urban space can be examined from both visual and expressive perspectives.The purpose of this article is to improve the quality of urban space by emphasizing the role of color. This study has examined the interactive quality of color in urban space from practical, sociological, psychological, identity, aesthetic and symbolic aspects and has examined its role as an effective factor in the appearance of the city. The research was descriptive-analytical and the data were collected based on library information and field perceptions of urban space.
